Oregon Ducks head coach Mario Cristobal has officially ruled out running back CJ Verdell for the remainder of the season due to a leg injury.

Verdell suffered this injury during the third quarter of Oregon's stunning upset road loss to Stanford last Saturday. The fifth-year junior was subsequently helped off the field after suffering the injury and did not return to the game. The Ducks missed his ground production in the fourth quarter, as they failed to orchestrate any scoring drives.

After the game, Cristobal simply noted that he believed Verdell suffered a “significant injury.” The worst possible scenario has now come to fruition, as the running back will not feature again for the reigning Pac-12 champions this season due to the injury.

Verdell was on pace for another standout campaign with Oregon, as he recorded 480 yards from scrimmage and seven total touchdowns through five games played this season. For one, he played a vital role in the Ducks' upset road win over the then-No. 3 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes thanks to his 195 yards from scrimmage and three total touchdowns performance.

The Ducks will now have to count on other running backs to help replace Verdell's on-field production. For one, Oregon backup running back Travis Dye is now slated to be the feature back for the Pac-12 powerhouse over the remainder of the campaign. He currently ranks second on the team in rushing yards with 382.

Oregon will now look to turn the page on the defeat to Stanford with the upcoming Pac-12 home matchup against Cal next week.
