Gilbert Gottfried, the man with one of the most recognizable voices in comedy, has passed away at the age of 67. Gottfried's family announced the sad news on Tuesday afternoon:

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness. In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children. Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert's honor.”

Gottfried died due to complications from muscular dystrophy.

Gilbert Gottfried got big as a comedian in the 1980s, and he soon started to make his presence known in films such as Bad Medicine, Beverly Hills Cop II, Problem Child and Problem Child 2. His most iconic role was that of Iago in Aladdin.

Gottfried also voiced Iago, a scarlet macaw, in multiple sequels and television shows after the original Aladdin was released in 1992.

The comedian was a frequent guest of Howard Stern and carved out a lengthy career. His loud and obnoxious voice became iconic over the years, helping him become a truly distinguished member of the comedy world.
