Timothy Olyphant will join the cast of FX's Alien, Deadline exclusive reported.

The actor will star opposite Sydney Chandler in the Alien franchise prequel directed by Noah Hawley. Olyphant and Hawley previously worked together on Fargo's fourth season.

According to outlet's sources, Olyphant will play Kirsh, a synth who mentors and trains Chandler's Wendy. Wendy is reported to be a hybrid, a meta-human with the brain and consciousness of a child in the body of an adult.

Olyphant and Chandler are joined by Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, Adarsh Gourav and Kit Young.

Alien is executive produced by Ridley Scott who directed the 1979 film. FX's Alien is set before Ripley's (Sigourney Weaver) time. The show takes place on Earth, about 70 years in the future.

The show's production started in Thailand in July 19, four days after the SAG-AFTRA strike. American members of the union, including Chandler, weren't able to shoot their scenes.

The rest of the cast continued filming as they were members of the Equity British trade union and were not affected by the actor's strike. Production will resume in early 2024.

The scripts for Alien were completed before the WGA strike in May.

The show will be a homecoming for Olyphant at FX. His neo-Western drama Justified ran from March 2010 to April 2015 on the network. The show was based on Elmore Leonard's short stories. Olyphant played deputy US Marshal Raylan Givens. The story continued with the eight-episode Justified: City Primeval.

The actor also had a major recurring role in FX's Fargo and a season regular on Damages.
