Netflix‘s One Piece live-action series has gotten big Seasons 2 and 3 filming updates.
In a recent interview with Brashaad Mayweather (via @OPLANEWS on X), who played Patty in the first season, the filming plans for the upcoming seasons were revealed. It appears that the Netflix One Piece live-action series will go back-to-back with the production of its second and third seasons.
“Hopefully, there's a flashback scene with Patty. We'll see if they flashback to it because they're filming two seasons — Season 2 and 3 — back-to-back starting soon,” the actor revealed. “So we'll see what happens.”
Brashaad Mayweather, who played Patty in S1, mentioned in an interview that One Piece is filming seasons 2 and 3 back to back.

Don’t get your hopes up just yet, Netflix typically makes official announcements for renewals, and there’s no confirmation of this news at the moment! https://t.co/zcAfOxiz9z pic.twitter.com/ahPIMFpHp3— OPLA News (@OPLANEWS) June 1, 2024
Netflix has yet to confirm the news, so it's best to take Mayweather's comments with a grain of salt. Until the streaming service makes an official announcement, it remains speculation.
But if it's true, this is a huge play by Netflix. It is a potentially smart move given the cast's age. There are over 100 volumes of the original manga series. Adapting them all in live-action form with the current cast is nearly impossible, but it appears that Netflix wants to squeeze as much as possible out of the cast that they have.
Brashaad Mayweather is an actor most known for his role in the One Piece live-action series. He has also starred in Summer with the Guys, Just Now Jeffrey, and Deep Blue Sea 3.
What is the One Piece live-action series?
Netflix's One Piece is a live-action adaptation of the popular manga of the same name. It follows the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates as they search for the titular treasure. If they find it, it could help elevate their captain, Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) to greater heights.
Iñaki Godoy leads the ensemble as Luffy. Emily Rudd, Mackenyu, Jacob Romero Gibson, Tax Skylar, Vincent Regan, Jeff Ward, and Morgan Davies.
The duo of Steven Maeda and Matt Owens developed the live-action One Piece. Maeda is known for his work on Lost and CSI: Miami — he was a supervising producer on both of those series. Additionally, Maeda has written episodes of The X-Files and Day Brea in his career.
Upon its debut on the streaming service, One Piece was a huge hit. The series spent eight weeks in Netflix's Global Top 10 TV (English) chart. Its longest stay in the top ten chart was in Pakistan — it spent 18 weeks in the Top 10 TV chart in that country.
When it debuted, One Piece topped the Global Top 10 for the week of August 28-September 3, 2023. It logged a reported 140.1 million hours viewed and 18.5 million total views according to the streaming service.
The series maintained its stronghold on the top spot for two more weeks. In its second week, One Piece logged 145.7 million hours viewed and 19.3 million total views. The following week, it logged 75.5 million hours viewed and 10 million total views.
It quickly became clear that the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates weren't done yet. Netflix will evidently make more seasons of the live-action series. Fans will have to wait a little longer to see if Mayweather's comments will come to fruition.
