After two blockbuster weekends at the Sphere, Dead and Company will be staying at the Las Vegas venue longer than expected.

On May 28, the band announced their Sphere residency has been extended two weekends. They will now play shows August 1-3 and 8-10. This will bring the band's full show count to 30, the second-longest residency at the venue (behind U2's 40 shows).

“We're having a ball at @SphereVegas, so let's keep it going!” the announcement began. “See you for two additional weekends in August.”

Originally, Dead and Company was set to conclude their Las Vegas residency on July 13. This would come after 24 shows. They have been playing Thursday through Sunday of each weekend they are there. This trend will continue with the newly announced shows.

Presale registration is open on the band's official website. The general ticket sales will commence on Friday, May 31, at 10 am PT. The announcement also indicates that there will be VIP concert and hotel packages that are currently on sale via Vibee.

What is the Sphere?

The Sphere is a new high-tech venue in Las Vegas, Nevada. It features 18,600 seats and a 16K resolution LED screen that wraps around the interior. This makes for immersive images that are projected throughout the shows.

In addition to being a new music venue, the Sphere is also used to project films. Darren Aronofsky directed a documentary titled Postcard from Earth, which opened on October 6, 2023.

On September 29, 2023, U2 opened the Sphere. They were the first band to play at the venue and headlined a 40-show residency there.

The residency was centered around U2's 1991 album, Achtung Baby. For the first time, U2 played the album in its entirety. This included deep cuts such as “So Cruel” and “Love Is Blindness.”

Bono, The Edge, and Adam Clayton of U2 were present for the residency. Their drummer, Larry Mullen Jr., sat out of the Sphere shows for medical reasons. Bram van den Berg filled in for him.

After U2 concluded their residency, Phish took over the venue. They played just four shows from April 18-21 before handing the keys over to Dead and Company.

Dead and Company is a spin-off of the Grateful Dead. Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann of the Grateful Dead all returned for the new band. Though Kreutzmann was replaced by Jay Lane in 2023. John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, and Jeff Chimenti round out of the lineup.

As a band, Dead and Company have not released any studio albums. They have remained a touring spectacle since their conception in 2015. To date, they have embarked on 10 concert tours and now one residency at the Sphere.

During their first two weekends of shows, Dead and Company have played a variety of Grateful Dead hits. It's the perfect storm for fans of the band mixed with mind-bending visuals.
