Neil Gaiman's Dead Boy Detectives is moving to Netflix, Variety reported.
The show was originally set up at Max in April 2022, but will now move to Netflix. This is because the show did not fit James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC universe at Max.
Max's Doom Patrol also introduced the teenage detectives in the third season. However, Sebastian Croft, young Ned Stark in Game of Thrones, and Ty Tennant, young Aegon II Targaryen in House of the Dragon, played Charles and Edwin, respectively.
The eight-episode series follows Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), the brains and the brawn of the Dead Boy Detectives Agency. Edwin and Charles are teenage ghosts and detectives born decades apart to solve mysteries. A clairvoyant named Crystal Palace (Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura) assist them in cracking the mortal world's most baffling paranormal cases.
Edwin and Charles describe themselves as “pretty bang-on detectives when we're not hiding from Death.” Yes, Death as in Dream's sister.
Jenn Lyon (Esther), Briana Cuoco (Jenny the Butcher), Ruth Connell (Night Nurse), Lukas Gage (Thomas the Cat King), and David Iacono (David the Demon) are also part of the cast.
The Dead Boy Detectives first appeared in The Sandman #25 in the Season of Mists. This makes the move from Max to Netflix more of a natural fit with The Sandman second season already in the works.
Steve Yockey, who developed the series for television, also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer with Beth Schwartz.
