The recently aired Xbox Developer Direct (stylized as Developer_Direct) gave updates about some upcoming games, as well as incoming expansions. Here is everything that was announced at the January 2023 Xbox Developer Direct.
Officially announced last year, Minecraft Legends is the latest entry to the Minecraft universe. Unlike the original game, Minecraft Legends is an action-strategy game, where players spawn on a randomly generated world, much like the original. There, they must gather resources to build bases, recruit allies, and take down their enemies. Unlike normal Minecraft, however, you don't have to build bases one block at a time. Like your typical real-time strategy game, players can quickly build walls, gates, defense structures, and more, as long as resources are available. Mojang's presentation on the show focused more on the game's PvP mode. In this mode, two teams of four fight against each other with the goal of destroying the enemy base. PvP arenas are also random, so no two PvP matches will be the same.
Perhaps the most important piece of news is that Minecraft Legends finally has a release date. The game will come out on April 18, 2023, just a few months away. Interested players can already pre-order the game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Turn 10 Studios presented Forza Motorsport, with a huge focus on the game's realism. This includes damage and dirt on the cars, as well as the overall graphics of the game. The materials for the cars, as well as the shaders, were all “built from the ground up”. This helps the studio make this game look even better than before. They are also taking steps to make the game sound better than before, as even their sound systems were built from the ground up. The game will also have dynamic weather, time, and cloud systems, ensuring that the racing tracks will always have something different.
They also mentioned that the game will have over 500 cars, over 100 of which are new to the series. There are also tracks in five different locations, including the Kyalami track of South Africa. Although there was no exact release date, we at least know that Forza Motorsport will come out this year.
Tango Gameworks, the developers behind The Evil Within 1 and 2, as well as Ghostwire: Tokyo, recently released Hi-Fi Rush. Hi-Fi Rush is a rhythm-action game where everything, from the combat to the cutscenes, is moving to the rhythm. Players take control of Chai, an aspiring rockstar who was the victim of experimentation. The experiment leaves him sensing the rhythm of the world. Chai uses this power to fight back against the evil corporation that experimented on him.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom
Zenimax Online Studios revealed Necrom, the next DLC coming to the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online. Necrom sees the player returning to Morrowind, the location of the third Elder Scrolls game, and is part of the Shadow Over Morrowind update. Fans have been looking forward to a return to Morrowind, so this is good news for the game's players. Before Necrom arrives, The Elder Scrolls Online will first receive a minor expansion, Scribes of Fate, which introduces new dungeons for players to explore. This comes out on March 13, 2023, on PC, and on March 28, 2023, for the console ports of the game.
Necrom, on the other hand, will bring more than 30 hours of story content, two Morrowind locations, two companions, as well as the new Arcanist class. This DLC comes out on June 5, 2023, on PC, and on June 20, 2023, for the console ports.
Arkane Austin revealed details about Redfall, its open-world first-person shooter. Players can play solo or in groups of four as they try and take back Redfall, Massachusettes from vampires. The Redfall presentation focused on the game's various enemy types, ranging from basic vampires to ones with special powers. They mentioned that the more vampires you kill, the harder the game becomes, so look out for that. The studio also gave a look at the game's weapons and customization system, letting players modify weapons to their liking. Not only that, but they also showed off the abilities players have access to in their fight against vampires.
