With the Atlanta Falcons once again missing out of the playoffs, owner Arthur Blank and company decided to move on from head coach Arthur Smith. Luckily for the Falcons, legendary New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick became available just when their vacancy opened up.

As soon as he could, Blank had a one-on-one meeting with Belichick to discuss the opening. That meeting apparently went well as the Falcons are now holding a second interview with the head coach, via Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

The Falcons are sure to have plenty of candidates as they search for their next head coach. However, Belichick already earning a second interview is significant. He met with just Blank in his first ‘interview.' Now he will be meeting with Atlanta's front office. What has gone from Blank simply showing interest has turned into Belichick being a major candidate for the Falcons job.

Belichick-Blank connection

The social media football world is epically reacting to former Patriots coach Bill Belichick's interview with the Falcons.

Things did not go well for the New England the past two seasons. It bottomed out in 2023 when the Patriots went 4-13. The team decided it was time for a change and parted ways with Belichick.

While things may have ended poorly, there is no denying the success Belichick had in New England. Over 24 years, the Patriots went 266-121 under Belichick. He won three Coach of the Year awards as New England won six Super Bowls.

The Falcons have never won a Super Bowl. They last made it to the big name in 2016, losing in heartbreaking fashion to Bill Belichick's Patriots. Atlanta is looking to get back into the playoff hunt with an offense that includes Bijan Robinson and Drake London.

Belichick knows exactly what it takes to succeed in the NFL. The second act of his career post Patriots could be leading the Falcons to new franchise heights.
