Balan Wonderworld may have been an anticipated title for fans of prestigious developer Yuji Naka. However, fans should be aware of one issue that the game has that may cause not-so-fun effects to some players.
BALAN WONDERWORLD BUG MAY CAUSE EPILEPTIC SEIZURES IN UNPATCHED COPIES
Please ensure that you install the Day 1 Patch before playing.
We have received reports of a photo-sensitive epilepsy risk from a potential flashing bug if playing the game un-patched.
The Day 1 Patch prevents this issue as well as enhances the overall play experience.

The official Twitter account of Balan Wonderworld issued a warning last week, informing everyone who bought a copy of the game of potential risk. According to Game Informer, a flashing light bug in the game's final boss poses a potential risk to gamers. Late last year, the same writer talked about how Cyberpunk 2077 can cause epileptic seizures. Thankfully, game developers take these reports seriously. On the same day as the release, Balan Wonderworld Day 1 Patch came out, fixing the issue. According to producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto, the Day 1 Patch will also fix issues in movement controls, camera movement, and fluctuating difficulty levels. These were the usual issues gamers had with the game when they released a demo for the game months ago.
Hopefully, those who bought a physical copy booted the game while connected online. Otherwise, they might not receive the prompt to install the updates. In that case, we just hope they go online before reaching the final boss. Thankfully, fans will have to play for a long time before they reach the final boss. With twelve different worlds to explore, the game packs quite a lengthy adventure. However, many reviewers have noted that while Balan Wonderworld may be enjoyable for kids and retro platformer fans, it doesn't have the power to appeal to the general audience. This doesn't make it a bad game, though – just unremarkable.
