More negative news for EA and DICE's Battlefield 2042 has been rolling in, as they've previously announced several in-game maps would be receiving updates and changes to them in order to balance out combat opportunities for attackers and defenders. Due to the large and wide-open fields that are twice as big compared to Battlefield games in the past, some changes have certainly been called for and needed, but what the developers are planning to add or change does not sit well for many fans who are still holding onto this game.
Recently in a news post made over at the Battlefield 2042 website, they listed several key issues that the development team and the players are currently having with the current maps for the game, which have been broken down into multiple sections including traversal, the intensity of combat, sightlines, pathfinding, and cover. While their breakdown of these sections and their examples listed to improve their maps seemed all well and good, in actual practice, the actual changes that have been spotted in their work-in-progress screenshots have been met with criticism.
Over on Reddit's r/battlefield2042, players have been showcasing the planned changes for the maps in-game, and many have pointed out that the changes and additions seem superfluous or completely out of place. Many users have also pointed out that some of the assets that have been added to updated maps seem to be assets taken straight from Battlefield 4.
Article Continues BelowThe overall reception to the updated maps seems to be very negative, as fans are expecting much more from EA and DICE, but as it has been pointed out in previous articles for the game, the developers could just be winging it at this point, as they may already have their sights set on developing the next generation of Battlefield.
Battlefield 2042 is available on Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Origin, and the Epic Games Store.
