In a first for the series, Diablo 4 will finally be doing away with pre-established character pre-sets. “Diablo IV offers players more customization options than ever,” Blizzard said in the most recent Diablo IV Quarterly Update.
Diablo 4‘s character creator will give players the option to customize their character's face, hair, jewelry, makeup, tattoos, and body paint. There will also be expansive color options for skin, hair, and body markings. However, some elements will still remain class-specific.
The new Wardrobe system will also allow players to mix and match all their character's armor components per class. Additionally, an expanded dye system will allow further character customization by letting players change the color palette of their equipment.
Article Continues BelowExpanded character customization options aren't the only big changes setting Diablo 4 apart from its predecessors. It will also be the first entry in the series to embrace an open-world design. Joe Piepiora, the game's Lead Systems Designer, explained in an interview with IGN: “We don't want to create a slew of things that you need to do in the overworld, such that it might distract from the fun of killing monsters and finding dungeons. We're being very intentional about the opportunities we can provide to players so that we don't push them too hard in one direction or the other.” Fans of the series can apparently rest assured that Diablo 4 will not turn into a traditional quest icon-filled open world. Piepiora also mentioned that they will be implementing less-scripted NPCs and activities that happen dynamically in the world.
Currently, Diablo 4 still has no release date. Meanwhile, fans can expect Diablo II Resurrected this September.
