Eefje “Sjokz” Depoortere, the celebrated esports host, has just announced the expiration of her contract with Riot Games. Sjokz took to her Twitter account to update her fans on her current free agency situation. Sjokz has been a consistent voice in international tournaments with her recent stint on Worlds 2020 receiving a mixed reception from the audience.

Sjokz shared the unfortunate effect that the current ongoing pandemic had on her work schedule. Numerous CS: GO hosting events were unfortunately canceled in the face of the global health crisis. Nonetheless, Sjokz expressed her desire to continue working for CS events as a freelancer. She also opened the possibility of working on other titles besides League of Legends and CS.

One fan lamented the possibility of losing Sjokz in her usual spot hosting for the League of Legends European Championship. Sjokz quickly set the record straight that despite the lack of a contract, she still intends to work with the LEC.

The expiration of Sjokz' Riot Games contract follows a similar announcement from one of her fellow LEC on-air talents. Indiana “Froskurinn” Black, a prominent analyst and color caster, entered free agency earlier this week when her own Riot Games contract expired. There is no confirmation as to whether Riot Games chose not to renew their contracts or if both talents opted to try their hand as freelancers.

This starting trend of on-air talents opting to freelance could have lasting implications for Riot Games and any other esports title. We could potentially see our favorite casters and esports host in more titles than one.
