The Georgia Bulldogs will be looking for back-to-back-to-back titles in the College Football Playoff this season, but they'll have to do it without star Stetson Bennett. According to defensive tackle Warren Brinson, fourth-year Carson Beck is a worthy successor.
“Carson is a grinder,” Brinson said about his former roommate, in a conversation with former quarterback and All-time SEC passing leader Aaron Murray, according to Mike Griffith of Dawg Nation. “He's the first quarterback in the building. The last two years, you'll see his truck parked out there first, he's there, and he's leaving last.”
“Carson is that guy, just wait,” Brinson told Murray. “Carson is that guy, trust me.”
Brinson explained a “flip” in Beck after the team's first national championship title, and his desire to have one of his own.
“After our first natty, we were talking, and he was like ‘Warren, I want my own,'” Brinson recalled during the interview.
Beck is a former Alabama commit entering his fourth season with Georgia Football. He will be competing with third-year signal caller and former Oklahoma commit Brock Vandagriff, as well as second-year QB and former South Carolina commit Gunner Stockton, per Griffith.
“He's a pocket passer, but he went to Mandarin [Fla.] High School, he had to run the ball at some points,” Brinson said in his scouting report of Beck.
“He's not scared to duck his shoulder and run somebody over…I feel like Carson is going to get it done in the pocket, but when he needs to scramble, he's going to be able make plays with his feet. I feel like he's going to make most of plays from the pocket, sitting back there being comfortable and hitting his check downs.”
Most importantly, Warren Brinson said he's confident Carson Beck can lead Georgia Football to its third straight championship,
“He's a really good quarterback — a good smart quarterback, so I feel like he'll do good staying in the pocket and being composed just making plays from the pocket and not having to use his feet.”
