Daniel Jones' stint as the starting quarterback of the New York Giants was a rollercoaster at first. He posted some impressive numbers as a rookie despite showing plenty of flaws. The past few years, it has been nothing but downhill. Jones has shown little, if any, improvement.

Giants owner John Mara talked positively about Jones, saying that the franchise thinks Jones is their main guy under center. But Mara also told reporters that the team has not yet picked up his fifth-year option. The deadline to do so is May 2nd. The fact that not taking it is in play makes it seem like Jones won't remain the Giants' QB barring an unforeseen development in his abilities.

The actions, as they always do, speak louder than the words. The Giants not yet picking up Jones' option show that they don't have full belief in him. It makes sense, as Jones has not given them much of a reason to. Even though he has played for inept head coaches and offensive coordinators, he has routinely embarrassed himself with his awful decision-making.

New York was seen as a possible landing spot for Mitchell Trubisky before he landed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. They were linked to current free agent Cam Newton as well. Although the Giants have Jones, they are showing an interest in adding a quarterback that could challenge him for the starting role.

Jones has a lot to prove in order to be the Giants' true franchise QB.
