The premiere of HBO's Hard Knocks is always a sign that the NFL season is just around the corner. Earlier this summer, the Chicago Bears were announced as the team that will be featured on the annual training camp documentary. However, this season we don't have to wait until training camp because HBO is launching a new Hard Knocks program that features the Giants.

Earlier this offseason, HBO announced a new edition of the program titled Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants. The trailer for the show was released today and it featured several interesting teases.

The trailer confirmed a few details that we expected to see from the program, some of which we already expected.

First, it confirmed that we will have footage from inside the Giants' war room throughout the 2024 NFL Draft. This has become a staple of NFL media, with teams posting their own footage through their own channels. It is no surprise that HBO will be allowed to use some of this existing footage.

We also received confirmation that we will spent some time learning about the Brian Burns trade.

“What about Brian Burns? Have you looked at Brian Burns?” Schoen asks Giants head coach Brian Daboll, at what looks like the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine.

“We would have to trade, like, two twos and then you have to pay him like $28, $29 million.”

Of course, the Giants did trade for Brian Burns. It will be interesting to see that go all the way from idea to reality in the show.

Saquon Barkley departure, Daniel Jones rehab teased in Giants' Hard Knock trailer

Some of the storylines that were teased in the trailer were a pleasant surprise.

Daniel Jones is the starting QB for the New York Giants, so it makes sense that he will get a spotlight in the show. Jones missed several games in 2023 after suffering a devastating injury. As a result, Hard Knock will allow viewers to follow Jones through his recovery process.

The short clip we received in the trailer highlights the severity of Jones' injury.

“I am five months from the surgery,” Jones said in the trailer, “I'm still progressing that. You know, I've gotten hurt, but not like this.”

Another interesting storyline is the departure of Saquon Barkley. The Giants drafted Barkley with the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and he has been a pillar of the franchise ever since. However, Barkley left the Giants in free agency and signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.

In the trailer, we see a brief clip of Giants general manager on the phone with Barkley. It is unclear where in the free agency process this conversation takes place, but it seems that the relationship has already soured by this point.

“Saquon, can you give me your word on that, or are you not going to give us a chance?” Schoen said.

It will be fascinating to get a closer look at this situation. Hopefully we get some footage that tells Barkely's side of the story too.

Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants premieres in one week on July 2nd.
