The New York Giants are preparing to take on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 15. The Giants have been hit hard by COVID-19 but also by illnesses, particularly in their linebacker room, as backers Reggie Ragland, Bernardrick McKinney and Elerson Smith are all out with illnesses. To address the linebacker room, New York signed former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith to their practice squad.

This is a sneaky-good move by the Giants. Jaylon Smith isn't the player he was for the Dallas Cowboys, but he can still fill in on a defense when injuries strike.

Smith, a former second-round pick out of Notre Dame back in the 2016 NFL Draft, made the Pro Bowl for Dallas back in 2019, playing in all 16 games while tallying 154 combined tackles, nine passes defensed, and one interception.

Injuries have derailed Smith's career- and were one of the big reasons why the Cowboys elected to cut him back in October. Smith made a brief stop with the Green Bay Packers, who also released him. Now, the Giants will take a chance on him and hope that he looks like the player of old.

With the Giants set to take on the Cowboys in Week 15, it will be interesting to see if New York gives Jaylon Smith a chance to take on his former team. Smith certainly has motivation to do so.
