Throughout much of the offseason, the New York Giants have had All-Pro wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.'s contract situation floating over the franchise.

It finally appears that the team is ready to negotiate with Beckham Jr. on a new lucrative extension as team co-owner John Mara stated as much on Thursday morning, according to Art Stapleton of USA TODAY Sports.

“I anticipate that we'll be speaking with his agents sooner rather than later,” Mara said. “I'm going to give you exact timetable on that or are we going to give daily or weekly updates on that. But I think those will start pretty soon. Hopefully we'll be able to come to an agreement.”

Beckham Jr. has been quite mum on the situation over the last several months with his sole focus on his recovery from a surgically-repaired left ankle. He has continued to make steady progress in his recovery from the injury with him being medically cleared to participate in all physical activity in the offseason workouts that should remain the case in training camp.

The Giants had previously aired some doubts about the situation given the constant off-the-field issues, but he has shown progress in his maturity level while also not allowing for his current contract ordeal from becoming a distraction. This has pushed the front office to work towards hammering out a new extension to keep in New York for the next several seasons that may make him the highest-paid wide receiver in the league.

When healthy, Beckham Jr. has proven to be one of the most productive players at his position that saw him become the first player in the league with at least 90 catches for 1,200 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in his first three years. He was well on his way to that pace last season with 25 catches for 302 receiving yards and three touchdowns in four games played. It may just be a matter of time before a new extension is worked out.
