The New York Giants have been moving cautiously over the last few days since rookie running back suffered a mild hamstring injury in training camp on Sunday while attempting to make a catch.
Since then, Barkley has voiced little concern about the injury by voicing it is something that he could play through if there was a playoff game lined up for this week. However, star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has some words of advice for the 21-year-old to take his time coming back from the injury as it's something that could linger on if not handled properly, according to Tom Rock of Newsday.
“Like I told him, take your time,” said Beckham, who was rushed back onto the field and suffered a setback in that rookie training camp. “There’s nothing you need to prove to any of us. There’s nothing you need to prove to anybody, not yourself. You know what you’re capable of. I know what you’re capable of. We know what you’re capable of. It’s just about getting healthy.”
Beckham Jr. certainly knows first hand about a hamstring injury lingering on a similar situation emerged for him in his rookie campaign as he was forced to miss most of training camp and the preseason along with the first four games of the regular season. When he returned, he was able to immediately make an impact on the field to showcase that he's a game-changing talent.
There is much weight to what Beckham Jr. is stating given that he's already gone through that in his career. There is no rush for Barkley to get back on the field sooner than he's ready to do so because the team knows what he can offer. He put that on display with his explosive 39-yard run in the first preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.
It's now on him to get right physically over the next few weeks in hopes to be ready to take the field for the regular season in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
