New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has never really been a considered an inaccurate quarterback, but Pat Shurmur is raising his expectations for what his quarterback can accomplish this year.

Manning completed 63.1 percent of his passes in 2014 which was his career high. If Shurmur gets his wish this gets his wish this year, Mannings career-high completion percentage will increase by seven percent this year. Shurmur thinks his offense this year will allow Manning to complete a lot more passes.

“I think he can,” Shurmur said, via Steve Serby of the New York Post. “I think it’s important that you get him in the high 60s, bordering on 70.”

Manning is also excited about what he has seen from the offense so far during the preseason, and he thinks it could be a special season.

“I think we have guys that can get open, and I think it’s a good system and scheme,” Manning said. “I think we’ll run the ball and get in good down-and-distance and have an opportunity to find completions. I hope we can do that.”

Manning raising his completion percentage by seven percent seems like a stretch but last year Case Keenum raised his completion percentage by seven points under Shurmur.

The veteran quarterback is going to have a stronger running game to lean on which should help raise how well the offense can move. If Manning can get his completion percentage up close to that 70 percent, it could mean that the Giants will be a player in the NFC East.
