Sources say that Neil Gaiman's Good Omens is set to get a season 3 renewal by Prime Video and the BBC, Deadline reported.

However, season one and two executive producer, director and co-showrunner Douglas Mackinnon will not be returning. Mackinnon announced his departure on Instagram.

He was answering a SAG-AFTRA strike-related challenge to film/TV professionals when fans identified the photo as the Good Omens set. They then started a Good Omens discussion in the comments, asking for updates. Mackinnon then replied, “I’m not involved with this show anymore.”

This led fans to ask creator Gaiman about Mackinnon's involvement in the show. He responded by saying, “Douglas has moved on to other projects.”

While fans have concerns regarding Mackinnon's departure, a season three renewal may be imminent. Prime Video touts the show's second season released in August as its number one comedy worldwide following its premiere.

When fans asked Gaiman for more season three details on X (formerly Twitter), he answered, “It's planned and plotted and if there wasn't a Writers Strike on I'd be writing it right now. Ways to help make Good Omens Season 3 happen are A) watch Season 2, B) get people who know nothing of Good Omens to start watching S1, and C) encourage the studios to negotiate with WGA.”

Good Omens was written by Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett. The show's third season will most likely pull from the pair's unfinished sequel to the book.

Gaiman has had to ask for fans to refrain from asking him for more details or to use their suggestions in the next season.

However, when asked about the possibility of a fourth season, Gaiman said on Tumblr, “No, there won't be an S4.”
