The Miami Heat are trouncing the New Orleans Pelicans in the first of the NBA's annual tradition of five marquee matchups on Christmas Day. Helping the Heat's cause is third-year forward Duncan Robinson, who is a flamethrower from behind the 3-point arc.

Robinson, 26, hit a new NBA-record six first-half 3-pointers against the Pelicans, the most in one half.

Coincidentally, his opponent on Christmas Day, Pelicans All-Star forward Brandon Ingram, actually possesses the record for the most triples on the holiday in the entire game with seven total. He accomplished that feat last year on Dec. 25, 2019, against the Denver Nuggets.

The Heat sharpshooting is very much on track to eclipse that record too, however. He went 6-for-8 from deep through two quarters.

At 6-foot-7, Robinson was an undrafted free agent out of Michigan signed by the Heat first for their Summer League squad before toiling in the G League. Robinson only appeared in 15 games during his rookie season in 2018-19. Nevertheless, the New Hampshire native was a huge contributor to the Heat this past season on their Eastern Conference Finals title run.

In 2019-20, Robinson averaged 13.5 points and 3.2 rebounds in 29.7 minutes per game, shooting 47 percent from the field and 44.6 percent from 3-point range, also making 68 starts in the regular season. Robinson and the Heat would fall to the Los Angeles Lakers in six games in the 2020 NBA Finals, held in the Walt Disney World bubble in Orlando, Florida.

Robinson and Tyler Herro, among others, became strong role players for stars Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo on the Heat and appear to be huge contributors moving forward.
