The Jacksonville Jaguars are dealing with an injury to star quarterback Trevor Lawrence but the latest Christian Kirk injury update is worse. The news out of Duval County is that the wide receiver will undergo surgery to repair a core muscle injury he suffered in the Jaguars’ heartbreaking Week 13 overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. This surgery could keep Kirk out for eight weeks or more.

“Jaguars WR Christian Kirk suffered a core muscle injury on his catch last night and is expected to need surgery. Rehab for a core muscle issue is generally about eight weeks,” NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday. “If Kirk is ready at eight weeks, he could play in the Super Bowl if Jax makes it. A little earlier puts him in the AFC Title game — if Jax makes that.”

This Christian Kirk injury update is brutal for the Jags, as the wideout leads the team in receiving yards with 787. He also has 57 catches and three touchdowns on the season.

Can the Jaguars recover from Week 13 loss to Bengals?

The Bengals and Jaguars will battle on Monday Night Football

As for coming back in the AFC title game of the Super Bowl, it may be a bit optimistic to think the Jaguars have a chance at that after losing in Week 13 to the Bengals and their backup quarterback, Jake Browning.

Jacksonville came into the game with control of the No. 1 seed in the AFC — and the Wild Card Weekend bye — in their hands. However, that is now gone with this loss. There may be even more lost, too, now with Kirk out and Trevor Lawrence’s status for Week 14 and beyond up in the air after suffering a high ankle sprain.
