The Jacksonville Jaguars are spending big in free agency. They're showing a significant desire to get out of the basement of the NFL and put a strong team around Trevor Lawrence. After surrounding their franchise quarterback with a new cast of supporting players, they made a move to bolster their defense.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars signed Los Angeles Rams cornerback Darious Williams to a three-year contract with $18 million guaranteed.

Last season, Williams appeared in 14 games and recorded 71 total tackles and nine passes defended. The 29-year-old started for the Rams on their Super Bowl conquest and now pair up with second-year cornerback Tyson Campbell to help resurrect the Jaguars' once-mighty defense.

Jacksonville decided to release Myles Jack but brought in 2021 tackles leader Foye Oluokun on a three-year deal to replace him. They will have to keep adding pieces around star edge rusher Josh Allen to make a serious difference. On the offensive side, they signed Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff, wide receiver Christian Kirk and tight end Evan Engram. With Marvin Jomes, James Robinson and Laviska Shenault Jr. in place, the Jaguars should improve in Lawrence's second season.

The Jaguars endured a brutal season thanks to the embarrassing incompetence from Urban Meyer. After rightfully pulling the plug, they are looking to build back up with Doug Pederson and put a solid team together. They went just 3-14 last season but could improve their win total with their upgrades and the players they add in the upcoming NFL draft.
