The Jacksonville Jaguars have been having a fire sale for quite some time. It turned up quite a few notches when they traded superstar cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams. Since then, news has leaked concerning a few players who are not happy with the situation in Jacksonville. One of those has been running back Leonard Fournette.
The Jaguars have recently been looking for a trade partner for Fournette. However, the running back has not been traded yet. And that's not for a lack of trying on Jacksonville's part.
According to John Reid of Jacksonville.com, the Jaguars tried to trade the star running back on Day 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft. However, they failed.
Per Reid, the Jaguars were in talks with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at one point. Tampa Bay decided not to pull the trigger, though, and instead selected running back Ke'Shawn Vaughn from Vanderbilt in the third round.
Fournette had a great season in 2019. He racked up a career-high 1,152 yards on 265 carries and also averaged a career-best 4.3 yards per carry.
The running back also absolutely crushed his previous receiving highs as well. Although he didn't score a touchdown, Fournette reeled in 76 receptions for 522 yards. His old career-bests were just 36 receptions and 302 yards.
Due to that, it's surprising that more teams aren't interested in the star. However, it also means that it wouldn't be the worst thing for the Jaguars if they found a way to make it work with Fournette moving forward.
The issue for the Jaguars is that he's clearly unhappy. And it's obvious that Fournette will be out the door once his contract is up following the 2020 season. So it would make more sense for them to trade him and get a positive return, instead of watching him leave in free agency for nothing if they can.
But while Jacksonville is indeed trying to trade Fournette, so far, they don't have any bites. This is something to monitor though, as a move could happen at any time.
