The Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills will meet this Sunday in the AFC Championship Game. The biggest question heading into this showdown is whether or not Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes will suit up after leaving last weekend's Divisional Round win over the Cleveland Browns due to a big hit.

Mahomes has been in concussion protocol all week, but there are positive signs that he'll be ready to play against the Bills as the Chiefs try to repeat as Super Bowl champions. If Mahomes is unable to go, Chad Henne would get the start, but the assumption here is the 2018 MVP will play.

Based on that assumption, here are four bold predictions for the Chiefs heading into the AFC Championship Game.

1. Patrick Mahomes carves up the Bills

In the Chiefs' 26-17 victory over the Bills in Week 6, Patrick Mahomes had a strong performance, completing 21 out of 26 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions. He also ran the ball for 36 yards on 10 carries, while rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire ran all over the Buffalo defense for 161 yards on 26 carries.

In general, Mahomes is difficult to game plan for as a quarterback. Aside from his incredible physical traits, he has an uncanny ability to throw spirals in tight windows. Plus, he has great chemistry with his top targets, especially Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce.

One issue with the Buffalo defense is it's quite dependent on blitzing to generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Blitzing doesn't work on Mahomes, as he has a fast release and is able to recognize coverages and mismatches quickly. He consistently puts up big numbers against blitzing defenses.

One thing going for the Bills is Mahomes' injury. After suffering his injury on a scramble, perhaps Mahomes is more careful about scrambling and wreaking havoc with his legs.

Even so, expect Mahomes to return to action with a vengeance and throw for at least three touchdowns.

2. Lightning and thunder go off

Tyreek Hill has game-breaking speed. Watching Hill execute his deep routes makes you wonder if head coach Andy Reid is just playing Madden in real life. We've seen many one-dimensional speedsters flame out in the NFL, but Hill isn't one of those guys. On top of his speed, he has reliable hands and is a smooth route runner. Despite standing at 5-foot-10, he's able to out-jump defenders.

Kelce is the best tight end in the NFL and one of the best of all time. He's incredibly elusive and agile for his size at 6-foot-5, 260 pounds. The veteran racked up 1,416 yards during the regular season, second to Bills star Stefon Diggs in the entire NFL. Hill wasn't too far behind with 1,276 yards, and he was second in the league in receiving touchdowns with 15.

There is a possibility that the Bills decide to sell out and throw double-teams at Hill or Kelce. Their mantra may be to allow the other Kansas City receivers to beat them and not their dynamic duo. This can work, but leaving the likes of Sammy Watkins (assuming he plays) and Mecole Hardman open might end badly for Buffalo.

Hill and Kelce have a real chance of combining for 200 yards in the AFC Championship Game.

3. Chiefs stifle Josh Allen

A common occurrence in Chiefs games is them getting a lead early and forcing their opponents into a shootout. This is favorable for Kansas City since only a handful of teams have the firepower to match up with them.

Should this scenario happen, the effect wouldn't be as great on Buffalo. Josh Allen is used to dropping bombs to his receivers and is excellent at converting third downs. Allen threw for 37 touchdowns this season and is a dark-horse MVP candidate.

However, this shootout could be an opportunity for safeties Tyrann “Honey Badger” Mathieu and Daniel Sorensen. The two combined for nine interceptions this season, with one of those against Allen. Also, Bashaud Breeland is a solid cornerback for Kansas City.

Allen struggled in that Week 6 contest, throwing for just 122 yards on 14-of-27 passing. The Bills star is a different player now, but the Chiefs will hold down the fort defensively and pick him off twice.

4. Chiefs get the win

The Chiefs have a favorable matchup versus the Bills. The two teams have similar strengths, but Kansas City has the edge.

The Chiefs have better chemistry and the experience needed in close matchups. Buffalo's defense will be in a pick-your-poison scenario, because even if the receivers have a bad game, the Chiefs have rushing playmakers like Clyde Edwards-Helaire (he's on track to play) and Darrel Williams. Also, you never know when Le'Veon Bell might have a vintage performance with his trademark patient running style.

As long as Patrick Mahomes plays, Kansas City wins by a touchdown.
