The rookie season of New York Knicks forward Kevin Knox hasn't quite gone as planned, and it continued on Friday night against the Denver Nuggets.

As the 19-year-old took off for a high-flying jam that would have brought the Madison Square Garden crowd to its feet, he lost control of the ball before getting to the rim and instead produced a lowlight reel material.

At least Kevin Knox got to show off his leaping ability? He scored 19 points on 6-of-16 shooting in the Knicks' blowout loss to the Nuggets.

The ninth overall pick in last year's draft, Knox has been one of the least effective rotation players in the league this season.

Entering Friday, he's averaging 12.5 points and 4.4 rebounds in 28.5 minutes per game while shooting a dreadful 36.8 percent from the field. His -7.23 real plus-minus ranks dead last in the NBA, and it's not particularly close. The Kentucky product also has the worst on-off net rating of anyone on his team save DeAndre Jordan — acquired in February in the deal that sent Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks.

That's not to say there haven't been fleeting bright spots for Knox in the 2018-19 campaign. Most encouraging among them? His 34.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc, a league-average mark that portends improvement going forward.

Needless to say, Knox and Knicks fans need some reason to cheer. Hopefully the next time he gets his head at the rim for a dunk, Knox will finish it.
