It may have been Chris Martin of Coldplay who popularized the iconic verse, “When you try your best, but you don't succeed” through the hit song “Fix You”, but it was LeBron James who sang its tune on Tuesday night. James saw yet another monster performance of his go to waste after the Los Angeles Lakers failed to give him the necessary help in their 133-115 loss against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Despite going up against Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and the Clippers' army of long-limbed 3 and D wings, James still managed to put up 46 points on 16-29 shooting from the field and a season-best nine threes. However, seeing such a performance end in a loss could prove dispiriting to anyone, much less to James amid the Lakers' mediocre 22-26 season.
In fact, LeBron James was not able to hide his dejection anymore after the Clippers went up by 18, 121-103, with only around five minutes left in the game. After the Lakers waved the white flag, James could do nothing but stare blankly ahead, his shoulders slumped and his eyes rather droopy, as he began to accept the inevitable outcome that was the Lakers loss.

LeBron James has seen plenty of performances like these go to waste, so it's not his first time to experience a heartbreak of such nature. Who could forget the time when the Cleveland Cavaliers wasted his 51-point performance in Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals?
However, with James in the twilight of his career, it's taking him more and more effort to bring out these sorts of performances. Hopefully the eventual return of Anthony Davis would mean that less of James' monster games would end up in defeat.
