Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has had a stellar career despite announcing his retirement after nine seasons in the league. In an appearance on the “All The Smoke” podcast with former NBA players Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes, Johnson revealed that he used to long to play for the Green Bay Packers during his Lions career.

His shortlived playing years could've been even better if he managed to play alongside the Packers' prolific quarterback in Aaron Rodgers. The former Georgia Tech standout was also certain that his division rival also echoed the same desire to team up back then.

“Whenever we played Green Bay, whenever Aaron Rodgers was over on our sideline he would say, ‘Hey man, you need to come on over here.’ And I said, ‘I wish I could.'”

Calvin Johnson certainly made the most out of his time in the NFL, easily becoming one of the league's marquee wide receivers at the time. His rare combination of size, speed, and athleticism helped him stand out against his competitors and earned him many of the league's most prestigious honors.

He was named as the NFL receiving touchdowns leader in 2008, NFL receptions leader in 2012, a two-time NFL receiving yards leader in 2011 and 2012, along with six trips to the Pro Bowl.

Megatron still holds the NFL record for the most receiving yards in a season with 1,964 and the most consecutive 100-yard receiving games with eight despite hanging his cleats back in 2016.

The strained relationship between Calvin Johnson and the Lions organization was also undoubted and eventually affected how the Georgia native's career transpired in the long run. One can only imagine if Johnson's legacy would've been further solidified if he was able to suit up for the Packers alongside Aaron Rodgers.
