LSU All-American cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. will be out indefinitely after undergoing foot surgery. The procedure was announced on Wednesday for Stingley Jr., who most project to go early in the first-round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Per Matt Moscona of ESPN Baton Rouge, Stingley Jr. released a statement and hopes to return to the field for LSU later this year.

“I appreciate all of the support from LSU and the fans. I'm doing all that I can to return to the field as soon as possible. I want to finish out the season with my teammates and I will do everything I can to get healthy so that I will be able to play again this year.”

Some had assumed that Stingley Jr. would shut things down for the year and potentially with his LSU career and focus on the NFL and the draft next year. However, the start cornerback appears to be determined to comeback for the Tigers later in the season.

It's been a disappointing start to the season for LSU as they sit at 3-2 and are coming off a close loss at home to Auburn. The hot seat appears to be warmer for Ed Orgeron as the Tigers continue to struggle.

They'll get a chance to bounce back in Week 6 when they take on No. 16 Kentucky, who remains undefeated this year after beating Florida in Week 5. LSU will have to do it against the Wildcats and moving forward without Derek Stingley Jr. roaming the secondary.
