The LSU Tigers made waves when they recently announced the hiring of new head coach Brian Kelly. Well, Kelly's LSU tenure is not off to the best start, as he is about to lose his projected starting quarterback, Max Johnson.

That is tough news for Brian Kelly and LSU. Max Johnson, who has been the starter since last season, has been excellent for the Tigers, appearing in every game this season while throwing for 27 touchdowns and six interceptions.

The son of former NFL quarterback Brad Johnson, Max Johnson will now set his sights elsewhere just as Kelly arrived to LSU. To make matters worse, the Tigers also lost former quarterback Myles Brennan, who entered the portal upon the announcement that former head coach Ed Orgeron was stepping down.

That leaves LSU and Kelly awfully thin at the quarterback spot, with freshman and former four-star prospect Garrett Nussmeier the only signal-caller on the roster. If Nussmeier plays for LSU in the Texas Bowl, he'll lose a year of eligibility, as he wouldn't be able to red shirt.

So, not only did Kelly leave Notre Dame unexpectedly, but his starting quarterback Max Johnson asked for a transfer upon his arrival. Johnson's brother Jake, the number-one tight end recruit, announced that he was opening up his recruiting after he initially committed to LSU when Orgeron was the coach. Everybody hates Kelly apparently.

That's a rough start for Brian Kelly at LSU. Tigers' fans will hope that Kelly can carry over his strong recruiting to the SEC, as the program will need it after losing Max Johnson.
