Charles Barkley could have been the President of Basketball Operations for the Orlando Magic…or he thought he would be.

According to Jon Greenberg of The Athletic, the 55-year-old Barkley had high hopes of getting the Orlando job in 2017. However, the Magic chose to hire Jeff Weltman — the then-general manager of the Toronto Raptors — to take over the organization moving forward.

It is the second time this week that Barkley talked about getting the Magic's president post. In an appearance on 98.7 FM Arizona Sports, the Inside the NBA analyst admitted that he was pissed for not getting the job.

He even described Weltman as “one of those analytical idiots” and blasted Orlando for not getting “the best players.”

“Number one, I thought I was going to be one last year, and I was really pissed I didn’t get the job,” Barkley told 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station. “I would listen to certain people but I’m not sure at this stage in my life — but I did, I thought I had the job last year and it pissed me off. They hired another one of those analytical idiots instead of just getting the best players. So that’s OK.”

While it will be interesting to see Charles Barkley run the front office of an NBA team, the question remains if he even got an interview for the Magic job. There were no reports or rumors that link him with the position that time.

Moreover, before hiring Weltman, the Magic reportedly explored bringing in former Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin, as well as former Minnesota Timberwolves executive Kevin McHale.
