Arguably the biggest storyline in this year’s Masters tournament was the return of Tiger Woods. Woods had not played competitive golf in over 14 months since his serious car accident in southern California in February, 2021. The accident reportedly almost cost him a lower extremity. Doctors were able to save his leg, setting the scene for Tiger’s return to The Masters

Woods played extremely well on Thursday, posting a 1-under 71. That was about where the great play would end. Woods ended shooting 74, 78, 78 the final three days, finishing at 13-over par.

Meanwhile, golf’s number one ranked player, Scottie Scheffler, continued his recent dominance, winning his first green jacket. After winning the tournament, Woods shared his thoughts on his play, as well as Scheffler.

“I didn’t play my best out there, but just to have the support and appreciation from all the fans, I don’t think words can describe that. Congratulations to Scottie Scheffler on an outstanding win. It’s been a special run.”

The special run Woods is referring to is what has happened over the last six weeks. Scheffler has now won four of his last six tournaments, including The Masters. You do not see someone win at that rate in such a short period of time very often. Scheffler became the first player who entered The Masters as the top ranked golfer in the world to win the tournament since 1991 when Ian Woosnam did it.

Woods’ 13-over was the worst final score at The Masters during his illustrious career. As the tournament wore on, it became cleared that physically, this tournament took a toll on him. Despite not being at full strength, Woods still hit some incredible shots and made the cut for the 22nd time in a row in his career.
