New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor recently shared the honest truth about Jacob deGrom's recent injury and it's overall impact on the team, per Mike Puma.

“Even if [deGrom] was on the team, how many games has Jacob lost because we didn’t do our job? Teams can still beat us 1-0. It sucks to watch him on the sideline. I want to see him every five days.”

The Mets struggled as an offensive unit in 2021 without question. Lindor, who was acquired from Cleveland prior to the season and had lofty expectations upon entering New York, labored mightily as well. The former All-Star posted a very underwhelming .230/.322/.412 line with a .734 OPS.

It is certainly good to see Lindor taking responsibility and calling the lineup out. The Mets hitters will need to step up to open the season with deGrom sidelined, and with Max Scherzer also dealing with a minor injury.

But Lindor is referencing the fact that even when deGrom is healthy the Mets still failed to score enough runs to win on a consistent basis. deGrom pitched in 15 games last year and earned just seven wins despite posting a remarkable 1.08 ERA. New York could have won far more games but their offense failed to come through for Jacob deGrom.

Perhaps Francisco Lindor's blunt statement will help the offense awaken and lead New York to some early season victories. The Mets have high expectations for the 2022 campaign but the injury bug is already negatively affecting team morale. Lindor's presence as a leader for the Mets will be of the utmost importance this season.
