Michael Penix Jr. and Washington don't seem to be too phased by Texas's defensive line ahead of their big matchup in the Sugar Bowl in the semifinals of the College Football Playoffs. When addressing media earlier in the day, the star Huskies quarterback was asked about facing a defensive line that features 2023 Outland Trophy winner Tvondre Sweat and Big12 Defensive Lineman Of The Year Byron Murphy II. His answer, per Longhorns insider Chip Bown, was pretty straightforward.

“They play good ball, but I wouldn't say we're playing the 49ers' D-line or the Eagles' D-line, so we'll be good.”

Penix wasn't alone in his comments. Washington running back Dillon Johnson touted his SEC playing experience as the reason why he wasn't worried about the defensive line.

“I played in the SEC. It's nothing new to me. I've played Bama and Georgia. I'm used to it. I'm ready for it.”

Should Washington be worried about Texas's defensive line? The numbers say that they might need to be cognizant of the talent on the Longhorns D-line but not overly cautious. Washington has allowed only 11 sacks this season, the second in the Pac-12 behind Oregon. Penix is more often than not given a clean pocket to make plays, leading an explosive offense for the Huskies.

But, Texas will pose a challenge. The Longhorns might not have a NFL level line but they have netted 32 sacks this season and hold opponents to 17 points per game. They also hold opponents to 80.8 yards rushing per game.

Nevertheless, the matchup between the two teams will be interesting and, certainly, Michael Penix Jr. and Dillon Johnson's comments will be a source of motivation for the Longhorns defensive line as the game nears.
