The Seattle Mariners will try and win the three-game series as they meet the Texas Rangers in the finale in Arlington on Sunday. It's time to continue our MLB odds coverage with a Mariners-Rangers prediction and pick.

The Rangers defeated the Mariners 3-2 on Saturday. Adolis Garcia started things in the fourth inning when he whacked a three-run bomb to left field to give Texas a 3-0 lead. It was the ninth home run in 2022 for Garcia. Later, the Mariners answered back when Jesse Winkler cracked a two-run bomb to deep right field. There would be no more runs as neither team scored the rest of the way.

Glenn Otto went five innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits while walking four. Alternatively, Marco Gonzales tossed seven innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits. He took the loss. The Mariners are 23-30 and in fourth place in the AL West. Meanwhile, the Rangers are 25-27 and in fourth place in the AL West.

Why The Mariners Could Cover The Spread

The Mariners have covered the spread in both games. Both games have produced one-run results and Seattle hopes to continue that trend on Sunday. George Kirby will take the mound. Kirby is 1-1 with a 3.46 ERA. He tossed six scoreless innings in his last start, allowing four scattered hits while striking out eight. Kirby will look for some support from an inconsistent offense.

The Mariners rank 17th in batting average, 11th in on-base percentage, 22nd in runs scored, and 13th in home runs. However, Seattle mustered only four hits in Saturday's contest. Ty France and J.P. Crawford each went 0-for-4. Eugenio Suarez went 1-for-2, but otherwise produced no real impact on this game. The Mariners were within a run for the final four innings and could not tie it up.

Seattle hopes to capitalize on its opportunities Sunday but will face a really strong pitcher. The key for Seattle is to get on base early and often. The Mariners will cover the spread if they can get a solid outing from Kirby. Additionally, Seattle needs offense. They need their batters to slug the ball out of the yard and also manufacture runs. The Mariners can escape Texas with a win if they can somehow score five runs. It might be all they need in this one.

Why The Rangers Could Cover The Spread

The Rangers are locked and loaded and see the final Wild Card berth within range. Yes, it is only June, but the Rangers are within one game of the final Wild Card spot thanks to a brutal stretch by the Los Angeles Angels. Texas will go with Martin Perez in this game.

Perez has been a gem in 2022 and arguably the biggest surprise of the year. He has toiled through mediocrity throughout his entire career with a 4.53 ERA. However, he has hit the spots correctly this year and is a significant reason the Rangers are competing for a Wild Card berth. Perez tossed seven scoreless innings in his previous start against the Tampa Bay Rays, allowing three scattered hits and striking out five. Remarkably, he has hit at least seven innings in three straight games. Perez has outshined himself and tossed six innings or more in eight straight starts. He will look to continue the trend and get some offensive support.

The Rangers are 22nd in batting average, 27th in on-base percentage, 19th in runs, and 20th in slugging percentage. However, they also rank 10th in home runs. When the Rangers do score, it is usually through the long ball. They got all three of their runs yesterday on one home run. Garcia has been excellent in 2022, smashing nine home runs and 35 RBI. Additionally, Corey Seager has been a spectacular addition to the team, hitting 11 home runs with 25 RBI. Kole Calhoun has also produced solid numbers, hitting seven home runs and 21 RBI.

The Rangers will cover the spread if Perez can deliver another quality start. Perez must go deep into this game and take down the Seattle lineup while giving his teammates the chance to give him support. Moreover, the Rangers need to strike early to put the Mariners on their heels. Texas has the ability to do that, especially in a day game where the ball might fly.

Final Mariners-Rangers Prediction & Pick

The Mariners have hung around the Rangers over three games. However, this game feels different. Perez is on another level lately and will carry the load again. Expect the Rangers to cover the spread and send the Mariners home with a loss.

Final Mariners-Rangers Prediction & Pick: Rangers: -1.5 (+162)
