The Miami Marlins have officially acquired Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Jacob Stallings. This is the third big move for the Marlins in 24 hours.

Stallings is one of the better defensive catchers in the MLB as he was a Gold Glove winner last season. This is an interesting move by the Pirates but they must feel that their first overall pick in last year's draft, Henry Davis, is almost ready to get big league playing experience. In return, the Pirates got pitcher Zach Thompson and other prospects from the Marlins.

If the Marlins can continue making moves like this, they will have a good chance at possibly winning an extremely tough NL East. They have some of the best pitching in baseball, but it's going to be tough to compete with the New York Mets and the defending world champions, Atlanta Braves.

The Marlins are reportedly interested in star outfielder Nick Castellanos. If the Marlins can get a guy like Castellanos, they're definitely going to be a team to watch out for. Castellanos was one of the best hitters in baseball last season as he hit over .300 with 34 home runs. He was born in Miami and it would make sense that he would want to go home and play for this up-and-coming Marlins team.

Jacob Stallings is one of the first moves that the Marlins have made this offseason. Expect them to add a few more guys in free agency.
