The New York Mets are hoping to get their two superstar pitchers back in action soon as both Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom are reportedly nearing a return to the mound. Unfortunately, the Mets were dealt another injury blow on Wednesday, as Carlos Carrasco exited Wednesday's start against the Houston Astros. According to Steve Gelbs, Carrasco was removed from the game with an apparent injury, another significant blow for the Mets, who simply cannot seem to stay healthy this year.

Carrasco exited the game in the top of the third after having thrown a total of 53 pitches. He lasted 2.1 innings in the game, surrendering 5 earned runs, including a pair of home runs to Yordan Alvarez, and another bomb to Alex Bregman.

He clearly didn't have his best stuff throughout the game, but it seems that it was an injury that ultimately cut his afternoon short.

Mets activate reliever amid Yankees series

Losing Carrasco is a significant worry for the Mets, who have been performing something of a balancing act when it comes to their starting rotation amid myriad injuries. Nearly every starting pitcher on the Mets' roster has spent time on the IL this season, and Carrasco could very well be next in line for a stint on the shelf.

He'll receive testing on the injury, which remains undisclosed, and the Mets will provide an update on his status soon, though fans will have to wait with bated breath until then.

Entering play on Wednesday, Carrasco had a 3.96 ERA with 75 strikeouts, in 75.0 innings pitched, maintaining an 8-2 record on the year.
