On Tuesday night, the New York Mets lost both slugger Pele Alonso and outfielder Starling Marte to injuries. The Mets first baseman was hit in the hand by a Yu Darvish fastball. Meanwhile, Marte injured his quad attempting to steal a base. He was sent for an MRI and imaging on Wednesday.
Well, Mets fans can breathe a sigh of relief. According to Mets beat writer Anthony DiComo, Marte said he was feeling better and does not expect to go on the injured list.
Starling Marte (left quad tightness) also says he feels better and doesn't expect to go on the injured list.

Earlier Wednesday, the Mets dodged another bullet. X-rays done on Alonso's hand came back negative. So, it appears that both players avoided serious injury and should be back in the lineup soon. That will be a big boost when they return. Alonso leads all of baseball with 54 RBI this season, to go along with 16 home runs. Meanwhile, Marte is once again having a steady season, hitting .277 with seven home runs and 33 RBI thus far.

New York has dealt with a ton of injuries. Their ace, Jacob DeGrom, is yet to pitch this year with a shoulder injury. However, he reportedly threw his first bullpen session last week. He appears to be on track for a July return for the NL-leading Mets.
Scherzer, the teams other ace, has been dealing with an oblique injury. He's been sidelined for a few weeks and was recently bitten by his dog on his pitching hand. He was however still able to throw a baseball.
The Mets have a sizable lead in the National League East. But it's a long season and the Los Angeles Dodgers are sure to push them for home-field advantage.
