The New York Mets have been riddled with injuries to key players this season. Both of their aces are currently on the injured list. Jacob DeGrom has not pitched this year due to a lingering shoulder issue. Meanwhile, Max Scherzer was placed on the 15-day IL a few weeks ago with a left oblique strain.
Well, there is some good news for Mets fans. According to Sports Illustrated Mets beat writer Pat Ragazzo, Scherzer has begun throwing bullpen sessions.

That is generally the first major hurdle for pitchers while rehabbing. If his bullpens go well without issue, it's likely that the Mets starter will be sent out for a rehab assignment.
Even though there is not an official timetable for his return, barring setbacks, it would make sense that Scherzer can re-join the Mets rotation in mid-to-late June.

DeGrom has been battling numerous injuries the last couple of years. He was expected to be healthy entering this season but suffered a stress fracture in his shoulder. It appears he is on track for a return sometime in July.
Despite losing both DeGrom and Scherzer for extended periods of time, the Mets have still put on a show this year. They have the best record in the National League at 38-21 entering play Thursday.
A lot of that has to do with the season that slugger Pete Alonso. He leads the majors with 54 RBI and has mashed 17 home runs, firmly placing himself in the NL MVP conversation.
