Ms. Marvel episode 1 ending explained

Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, Marvel, Entertainment

The episode starts with Kamala Khan creatively recounting Captain Marvel's part in Endgame in a vlog. She is then summoned by her parents who tell her to get ready for her driving license exam. After crashing the car, she is fetched by her parents again who bring her to school.

After walking with her friends, Kamala talks to Mr. Wilson. He then recounts her situation in school and what her plans for college are. A confused Kamala then proceeds to Bruno's store and they talk about her Captain Marvel costume for the upcoming Avengercon event.

Once home, Kamala opens a box of jewelry and spots a bangle from it. Her mother takes it away, but not before leaving an impression on the teenager. Her mother then takes Kamala to do some errands. Once they get home, Kamala discovers Bruno talking with her father about a security device. Bruno then tells Kamala to tell her parents about Avengercon and her cosplay about Captain Marvel.

Kamala confronts her parents and asks permission from them. They refuse, much to the annoyance of Kamala, who then storms out to her bedroom. Aamir, his brother, then speaks to her and promises to talk to their parents about Avengercon. Bruno then receives a text from Kamala about her parent's decision.

In the morning, Kamala tries her Captain Marvel costume on and ends up frustrated because she wasn't allowed to go. Her mother enters the room and tells the teenager that she can go with the condition that she wears an improvised Hulk costume with her dad. Kamala tells them that it's embarrassing, something her mother tells her to do or else she won't be allowed to go.

Kamala confides in Bruno about what happened with her parents. She also tells him all her recent frustrations with school and family. Bruno then comforts her and gives Kamala a pair of light-up gloves for her costume as the pair playingly spar.

After class one day, Kamala comes up with an idea to attend Avengercon without her parents noticing. She tells Bruno about it and he says they need to improvise a bit so it can work. Kamala remembers the bangle and retrieves it from the basement.

On the day of Avengercon, Kamala and Bruno enact their plan. After losing her bike, Kamala and Bruno arrive and attend the much-awaited event. The pair have the time of their lives as Kamala prepares for the Captain Marvel cosplay competition. She then spots Zoe, a bully from the high school she's attending, wearing a Captain Marvel costume.

Right before going up on stage for the competition, Kamala wears the bangle to make her costume more distinct, a glow of energy quickly envelopes her body. The same energy suddenly comes out while Kamala was on stage displaying her costume. This leaves the audience roaring in delight. But while that happens, a loose helmet of Giant-Man knocks a large prop out of the way, leaving Zoe in danger. She then creates an energy construct and saves her schoolmate from harm.

Bruno and Kamala hurriedly go home as they briefly discuss what happened in Avengercon. She enters her bedroom and discovers her mother waiting in there.

After being admonished by her mother, she emits a glow of purple energy from her hand, seemingly forgetting what her mother said earlier as the episode ends.

Right after the mid-credits, a police officer examines the video of Kamala Khan's cosplay appearance. He then tells her subordinate to bring the teenager in after seeing the energy emitting from her.

What just happened? A Ms. Marvel episode 1 recap

Ms. Marvel's debut on Disney+ is highly reminiscent of Peter Parker's struggles of being a teenager, and then being Spider-Man right after. It also sets up her supporting cast and effectively portrays her Pakistani culture in an American setting.

While there wasn't any sign of a primary antagonist, the first episode does its job of providing an entertaining and refreshing insight into Marvel's newest teenage heroine. It remains to be seen how the post-credits will play into next week's episode of Ms. Marvel.
