The new NBA 2K24 Player Market replaces the Auction House from previous NBA 2K games. But which one is better? Both share some similarities, as they give you a place to get wanted player cards. However, the new Player Market changes things up by letting you search for the exact card you want.

We believe both have their pros and cons, but we believe the Player Market to be the better of the two. Visual Concepts helped create a level playing field for NBA 2K fans to give them a chance to get the items they want.

As we approach NBA 2K24's release date, many fans wonder which option is the better of the two, let's find out.

NBA 2K – Auction House Vs. Player Market – What's The Difference?

Let's take a look at each mode and how they affect NBA 2K24's gameplay in MyTEAM.

Auction House

The Auction House allows to use MTP (MyTEAM points) to receive cards from other players while auctioning off their own. In order to receive access to the Auction house, you needed to collect 30 cards via challenges, pack openings, locker codes, and just playing games.

To search for the card you want, you may need to apply certain filters, which you can then bid for. Often, players refresh the market multiple times to find the best deals. So the strategy is to simply buy low and sell high to get the most out of the Auction House. Additionally, you can also just watch other auction outcomes, and active bids as well. The new Player Market also implements a new search feature that lets you find who you want with ease.

Overall, the Auction House was okay. At times, it definitely favored players who bought more player packs, selling more cards and earning more MT Coins.

Player Market

While we've yet to see any gameplay of the NBA 2K24 Player Market, we have a general idea of how it works from the recent courtside report.

Essentially, the new Player Market allows you to get access to almost every Player card in NBA 2K24. However, Season Mode and Other Player Reward Cards must be earned and aren't available for purchase. Each Player Card will be available at transparent prices for either VC or MTP.

In theory the NBA 2K24 Player Market should allow everyone to get the cards they want without spending millions. Additionally, a new Deal Of The Day feature lets you get discounted player cards every day. Lastly, quickselling player cards earns you more than ever before.

It's also worth noting that we now get more opportunities to receive MTP in NBA 2K24 and at much, including an option to flat-out buy some with real money.

NBA 2K24 – Player Market Vs. Auction House – Which Is Better?

Before NBA 2K24's release date, many fans wonder which market provided a better experience.  Now let's see why both are better than their counterparts before making our final decision.

Why The Auction House?

The Auction House gave players opportunities to buy player cards for really cheap while selling their own cards for higher prices. Overall, this feature allowed even free-to-play players a chance to fill their virtual pockets with some extra dough.

The new Player Market also prevents people from taking advantage of this opportunity. This is kind of a let down because it encourages people to buy more MTP or VC from 2K directly instead of being able to earn it themselves at enormous rates. Apparently players earn more MTP than ever through quicksells, but by how much? Depending on the increase, free-to-play 2K fans might struggle to keep up with others.

Lastly, purchasing MTP outright feels very pay-to-win considering some don't have the funds to purchase more than just the game.

Why The Player Market

The NBA 2K24 Player Market gets rid of the whole bidding war. Instead, it lets you get who you want, when you want. The new market is much more streamlined and predictable, creating a much more balanced atmosphere for everyone. You can also let out a sigh of relief knowing that no player cards will ever cost an exorbitant amount. For example, you won't have to bid for a player card just to see that player card skyrocket in price.

The new search filter hopefully means less scrolling to find that specific item. Additionally, the increased MTP per quicksell (depending on how much) seems great, especially since you're able to increase the value of your cards.

While we are concerned about the purchase of MTP directly, we also feel the increase in MTP per quicksell, and the Deal of The Days compensate for this. Hopefully, free-to-play gamers won't be left behind as time goes on. However, let's not pretend that certain aspects of the Auction House felt pay-to-win either.

Lastly, the new Player Market means no more MT selling sites, which were a big no-no in the eyes of 2K.

Verdict: NBA 2K24 Player Market Vs. Auction House

Overall, we believe the Player Market is the better option, but we'll also miss the opportunity to snag big deals like we could in the Auction. Overall, both were fine, but we feel the new Market makes for a much more balanced experience.
