Kenyon Martin has no qualms about the possibility of former teammate Carmelo Anthony playing again in the NBA, knowing he still has the willingness and capacity to shine at that level. The two played together for nine overall seasons — seven with the Denver Nuggets and two more with the New York Knicks — developing a bond and an understanding through their time together.

As far as Martin sees it, Melo can still play the game, but notes his old teammate is not looking for a farewell tour, but rather trying to make it back to the league for the right reasons:

“My experience with Melo was cool because I understand Melo. I understand basketball, I understand people and I understand situations, so my with Melo experience was fine,” Martin told Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype. “Can he still help an NBA team? Of course. It’s unfortunate that he’s in the situation that he’s in. Him sitting down with Stephen A. Smith? Oh well, it is what it is. I wouldn’t have done it, but it is what it is. He definitely deserves a spot in the NBA. I do think “farewell tours” are f*cking overrated. He wants to play the game of basketball. That’s what it should be about.”

Carmelo Anthony is in dire straits at this point of the offseason, with most teams already boasting full rosters and not many opportunities to come by. Melo also isn't looking to warm the bench as the 15th guy on the roster, but rather looking to have an active role to help the team win.

His situation is murky, but Martin is preaching gospel when he says it's truly unfortunate that one of the best scoring talents the league has seen finds himself in this type of predicament.
