If LaVar Ball will be in charge of where his youngest son LaMelo Ball ends up in the upcoming 2020 NBA Draft, he prefers it to be on the East coast. The Ball family patriarch recently revealed that he hopes Melo will get drafted either by the Detroit Pistons or the New York Knicks.

The Ball family, of course, reside in California and have deep ties to the community, so LaVar's choice might be quite shocking. Then again, his eldest son Lonzo Ball started his career with the Los Angeles Lakers only to get shipped to the New Orleans Pelicans in the blockbuster Anthony Davis deal last year.

As LaVar hinted in the clip, he wants Melo to go to a place where his talents will be maximized the most. The Pistons and Knicks failed to make it to the postseason in the 2019-20 campaign and both have rather thin backcourts. The young Ball would likely get significant playing time right away if he does land in either franchise.

But for this to happen, LaMelo Ball must somehow fall into the Top 5, considering Detroit picks seventh while New York selects next at eighth. The 19-year-old Ball, however, has been strongly projected as a Top 3 pick this year alongside fellow blue-chip recruits Anthony Edwards and James Wiseman.

For what it's worth, Ball's name has often been linked with the Golden State Warriors, who own the second overall pick. However, multiple reports have claimed that the 6-foot-7 guard hasn't been doing well during his job interviews with potential suitors. We've seen crazier things happen in the NBA draft over the years and Melo might actually slip all the way to Detroit or New York's lap.

Then again, LaVar has made some absurd predictions in the past, and only time will tell if he gets his wish this time around.
