Neither of these teams have lived up to the preseason expectations set for them. The Knicks were expected to be one of the Eastern Conference's better teams, but they've only posted a 24-30 record on the year, which is only good for the 12th seed in the East.

Meanwhile, the Nuggets have been slightly better, earning a 29-24 record on the season. Both teams desperately need to notch some wins to increase their chances of a postseason appearance, so there's plenty at stake in this game.

New York Knicks: +9 (-114)

Denver Nuggets: -9 (-106)

Over: 220.5 (-108)

Under: 220.5 (-112)

Why The Knicks Could Cover The Spread

New York has struggled mightily on offense this year, but their defense has been one of the better units in the league. The Knicks only give up 105 points per game while holding their opponents to a 44% shooting percentage and only 38 field goals made per game. The Nuggets are a strong offense, but this New York defense should hold up fairly well in this matchup.

The Nuggets have been one of the worst teams in the NBA when it comes to covering the spread. Denver owns a 23-30 record against the spread, with a 10-14 record ATS when they play on their home floor. The Nuggets are also 8-11 when they enter the game as a home favorite. It doesn't help that Denver is 1-4 in the last five games they've played as nine-point favorites or more.

Why The Nuggets Could Cover The Spread

While Denver's defense isn't particularly good, it should be more than capable of dealing with this New York offense. The Knicks have been one of the worst scoring teams in the entire NBA, averaging only 104 points per game. New York also possesses terrible shooting numbers, as they rank in the bottom five in the league in effective field goal percentage, 2-point percentage, 3-point percentage, and shooting efficiency. This is a downright bad Knicks offense, and the Nuggets should capitalize on that.

To make matters even better for the Nuggets, New York has been one of the coldest teams in the league recently. They've lost nine of their last 11 contests, only notching wins against the Los Angeles Clippers and Sacramento Kings in that span while taking a loss against the New Orleans Pelicans. The Nuggets have won six of their last nine contests and are playing on their home court.

Furthermore, the Knicks just played on Monday night in Utah, so this is a brutally tough back-to-back set for them in the altitude. Denver has every advantage you could ask for in this contest, plus an MVP candidate in Nikola Jokic.

Final Knicks-Nuggets Prediction & Pick

This is a fairly clear-cut pick. The Knicks haven't been particularly good against the spread lately, and they've been on a bit of a losing streak. Denver is the better team here in almost every way, and the score will reflect that. Lock in the Nuggets with confidence.
