With the Memphis Grizzlies firing head coach David Fizdale after losing eight consecutive games, Marc Gasol's future remains uncertain. As the Grizzlies are currently 7-12 and Mike Conley not expected to return from his Achilles injury ‘anytime soon,' they are at a crossroads.

If the Grizzlies ultimately decide to embrace a full rebuilding process, the Boston Celtics are expected to be one of the teams interested in Gasol. While the Celtics have been linked to the three-time All-Star in the past, they are eyeing another player according to Mitch Lawrence of Forbes:

The Celtics, off to a league-best 18-3 start, have been linked to Gasol in the past. He’d be what they need on the back line for rim protection and would fit in perfectly with Brad Stevens’ offense. But they might not want to mess with a good thing and are said to still have their eyes primarily focused on Anthony Davis, of the New Orleans Pelicans, if he ever becomes available.

For the Celtics, they can remain patient as they monitor the situations with the Grizzlies and New Orleans Pelicans during the course of the 2017-18 NBA season. If one or both teams are not in playoff contention by the February trade deadline, trade rumors will only ramp up and the Celtics certainly have the assets.

If Gasol or Davis ultimately land in Boston, the team's present and future are extremely bright. Despite only four players returning from last season's roster, the team's mix of young prospects and veterans have propelled them to an 18-4 start led by head coach Brad Stevens.
