Entering the NBA, the biggest asset that LaMelo Ball had going for him was his passing. The Charlotte Hornets star was the most prolific passer of his draft class, with elite vision and the guts to attempt every pass in the book. Well into his second year, it's safe to say that Ball's playmaking has translated well into the pro level.

Against the Miami Heat, LaMelo Ball made an assist record that only Lakers star LeBron James has ever surpassed. The Hornets star became the second-youngest player to tally 700 dimes in his career at 20 years and 179 days, just behind James by a few months (20  years, 12 days). (via ESPN Stats and Info)

Ball's preternatural passing sense has led to insane highlights prior to him entering the NBA. Now, Ball is showing that his passing is the real deal, making life a lot easier for his Hornets teammates. The second-year guard is averaging a gaudy 7.4 assists per game, a high mark considering his youth.

The Hornets in general have been a rather surprising team this season. They started off better than most fans expected, fighting for a playoff spot midseason. However, a February slump has them dangerously close to missing the playoffs yet again for another season. Their rebuilding efforts have been accelerated, and to see it get derailed by an untimely slump will be heartbreaking.

At the very least, Ball became the first All-Star player for the Hornets since Kemba Walker, replacing the injured Kevin Durant. However, this All-Star break should be used wisely by the team, lest they find themselves in a deeper hole.
