Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors find themselves against the ropes down 3-1 to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals and on the brink of ending their historic season in defeat. The Thunder are now the heavy favorites to win the series after an impressive Game 1 win on the road and two dominating performances at home.
But Draymond Green is still confident the Warriors can take the series to seven games and move on to the finals.
In his journal he wrote for The Undefeated, Draymond states the reality of the situation the Warriors are in and his confidence in the team to “lock in” and win three straight games.
Article Continues Below“This team, this group of guys, we haven’t been in an elimination situation (since 2014),” Green wrote. “So it’s different. But I also know this team knows how to lock in. I know this team knows how to play tough. I know this team knows how to play like our lives depended on it.”
“And I have no doubt in my mind that we will win (Game 5). No doubt about that. I absolutely expect to be back here and I look forward to it.”
After the loss, Green was understandably disappointed in himself and his play, turning in one of the worst performances of his career in one of the biggest games.
“I have to be better. I know this team energy goes as I go. They didn't have nothing to look for. I haven't given my guys anything. No leadership, no energy, nothing, which is what I bring to this team.”
“It's no shocker to me that we're down 3-1 because I haven't been there for two games. I wish I had the answer (as to why). I don't have the answer. But I know I will change it. It's not too late. That's why it's a seven-game series.”
Things better change immediately if he wants to make it back to OKC for Game 6. In the three games they have won, the Thunder have dominated the Warriors in all categories. But the result is really as much a product of Green’s poor play as it is the lazy passes, lack of effort on 50-50 balls, and the Thunder’s ability to dominate the rebounds. Not to mention Curry’s less-than-MVP-like play.
Game 5 begins at 6:00pm (PST) tonight in Oakland. For the sake of an exciting series, hopefully the 73-win Warriors team shows up.
