JaVale McGee‘s signing completed the 15-man roster the Golden State Warriors are set to bring to the start of training camp, but despite only receiving a $2.1 million sum for the next season, the organization will dole out a lot more than just that for his services.
The franchise will pay $4.4 million in luxury tax, having gone from a $27.9 million luxury tax bill to $32.3 million following his addition, according to ESPN Insider Bobby Marks — making a total expense of $6.5 million for his services.
The Warriors were not obligated to keep a 15th man in the roster, but the ownership has remained committed to spending in order to keep the team in shape to contend, buying draft picks in the past two seasons and even rewarding free agents with decent offers after a hefty hometown discount from Kevin Durant early in the free agency process.

Golden State will now have the same core at center with Zaza Pachulia as the starter, and David West splitting time with McGee, occasionally switching to his natural power forward spot when the 7-footer is used as a speed-five.
McGee had proved a crowd-favorite during his one and only season with the team, providing a contagious energy at both ends of the floor, despite logging only 9.6 minutes per game.
