There is no doubt that when Kevin Durant decided to join the Golden State Warriors in free agency, it evoked a wildly emotional response from the basketball community.

Many in Northern California were extremely pleased with his decision to join Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green to create what many are calling a ‘super team’.

Others were not so happy. Fans in Oklahoma have burnt his jersey, Charles Barkley has shown his disapproval of the decision, Jae Crowder has described it as a ‘slap to the face’, and many impartial fans believe it is damaging to the league’s balance.

Draymond Green had some pretty simple advice when Durant signed.

It seems as though the four-time scoring champion took Green’s advice and blocked the noise out completely.

As per Michael Lee of The Vertical, Durant found a way to avoid any kind of exterior criticism following his move to Golden State. Furthermore, Durant hasn't had someone relay to him in person the online heat since his decision.

“All that stuff happens on the Internet. I haven’t had one person come to me and say anything negative. It’s easy for the critics on the outside to tell you what to do, to tell you how to play. I’m the one that’s going through it, so I can’t really worry about the outside noise. The work don’t stop. Everything stays the same.”

Whilst it is probably the case that superstar basketball players are often surrounded by ‘yes men’ that approve of their every move, there is no doubt that those close to him would have seen the clear benefits of joining a record breaking team such as the Warriors.

It also serves as a reminder of just how well the best athletes in the world can be motivated by their own goals, as opposed to the opinions of others.
