In what is a fictional scenario only cooked up on social media, the idea of Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry and Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James operating as teammates is a pretty half-baked idea.
And yet, here I am, writing a post about this way-out-there idea since far too many folk talk about it as if there's any chance of it actually happening.
Nevertheless, I will provide two reasons why Stephen Curry and LeBron James operating as teammates is an awful idea.
2: My Entertainment
I don't know about you, but I don't consume basketball to be anything other than entertained. Sure, there's a large section of the NBA fanbase and media that seem to actually hate the sport for some weird reason, treating it like they “have to” watch and not as the optional form of TV show that it is, but I am here to enjoy it.
Nonetheless — whether it be for the Warriors or Lakers — if Stephen Curry and LeBron James played on the same team it would remove some of the drama from the league. After all, what good is the Western Conference if all the top players are all on one team?
I'm not against superteams, for what it is worth. Guys can do whatever the heck they want. But in terms of pure entertainment? Yeah… no.
I much rather see Stephen Curry and LeBron James lead their respective — and different! — teams to the postseason, facing each other late in the NBA Playoffs.
Article Continues BelowIf I'm dying to see them partner up, I'll watch All-Star games or something. Otherwise, straight trash!
1: Salley Does Have A Point
I can't believe this has to be written, but John Salley has a point. There's only so many basketballs to go around. For those unaware, math and common sense dictate that… there's literally only one basketball to go around at any given time in an NBA game. It's not as if the league allows multiple balls to be in play at various times.
Anyway, if Stephen Curry left the Warriors to join LeBron James and the Lakers, he'd also be there playing alongside Anthony Davis. Oh, there'd be other guys in the formula too, but for the sake of keeping it simple, that's three guys who all do their best work with the ball in their hands.
Would they still win it all? Sure. Of course. Salley — and myself to a degree here — can do the “not enough balls” trope as much as we want, but it would be hilarious to pretend that threesome would do anything other than win ALL THE GOSH SLAM TITLES!
So, ugh… maybe Salley has no points. Maybe, in terms of tangible basketball success, it would work. I mean, it definitely would work. Trying to claim otherwise is the act of pretending to be smarter than everyone else in the name of being a contrarian.
Oh, this is an article about why Stephen Curry and LeBron James as teammates is an awful idea, right? Well, my first point about entertainment is the only one that matters to me as a fan, and the rest do not matter. Fans are selfish like that.
Suck it, John Salley!
